The Promise: Part 1

A comic book sequel that takes place after Team Avatar puts the 100 year war to an end.

I’d like to thank my friend, Miguel for fetching it for me :3 Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to order Part 2 since it’s only going to be released this month.

I guess I’m so caught up with Korra and the
Republic City setting that I also wanted to take time to back track and figure out how Team Avatar turned out after Book Fire. Even in pages, I can just imagine their hilarious dialogs and even the sound effects from the bending in frozen frames. The art is very nostalgic andstays faithful to the series and the story gets even better, awkward and rather political which is a combination of awesome for me.

I really don’t want to say more but I encourage everyone to get their hands on a copy, hopefully they’ll be available in any bookstore soon.

For now, I’ll just leave you with Zuko’s cry ♥ ___ ♥

Panagbenga: Funky Float Parade

Previous blog: Panagbenga: Street Parade and Such

—————————————————————————————————-

The Panagbenga Float Parade was the most awaited day for me! Growing up, I always had a small fascination for colorful and moving contraptions. But it’s only now that I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of festivals of the Cordillera culture in the form of floats :3

Posing with one of the floats that were parked in Athlete Bowl after the parade but we shall rewind to the beginning…

First of I’d like to thank Baguio Cosplay group, Kawaii Kazoku for encouraging Baguio cosplayers to join them for the first ever Cosplay Parade for Panagbenga together with our good friends Shari and AJ from Otageki :3

Digital and Film comparisons

Naruto and le ladies!

Becuz we roll in Panagbenga like a boss :}D

I found the Star Wars float from Country Club to be most unique for me. They even had Storm Troopers and the rest of the cast marching alongside the float :D

Posing with the (founder) Father of Panagbenga, Tito Damy Bangaoet and doing protagonist poses ^_^

I don’t even know what was happening here XD

According to GMA, there were over 3 million that weekend o_0

I remember when we were younger, we used to enjoy watching the parades in this manner ^_^ The crowds on the street were very troublesome so people opted for higher ground that day. Oh how I envied them for their perfect view of the parade @__@

I bumped into the awesome blogger Robx aka the The Creative Dork, my long lost clone :) You can read his feature on the parade right here  FLOWER POWER: 10 THINGS TO SPOT AT THE PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL

A typical day with Naruto and friends XD

During the intervals of each wave, Ton and I decided to imitate the band and dance are butts off! We couldn’t care less of making fools of ourselves and we apologize to those viewers who saw our dancing behinds on your local channel XD

Presenting to you the firemage and his tuba …

It was Hannah’s first time to experience the Panagbenga festivities and cross trip during the parade! What a lucky duck :)

Brace yourselves for Sharkee the inflatable beast!!!

Flower power in both digital and film!

More street performers :D

The festive colors are just too yummy :3

Free advertising XD

Happy look! It’s Igneel!!!

I was screaming like crazy when Kuya Kim waved at us when the ABS-CSN float passed by! I wish to meet this awesome guy one day :)

Happy year of the dragon!

As usual, I got lost in the crowd of thousands venturing to take snapshots with my toy camera when suddenly news reporters from GMA abducted me for interrogation o_0

Due to the extensive heat, I suffered from mild heatstroke and got left behind the group (again for the enth time) for a while but we managed to survive and take a short nap to cool off.

Ama just leave this here ^__^

Thank you so much Mukha ng Baguio (MnB) for this lovely close up of me doing the Jean Grey pose :D Till next year!

Panagbenga: Street Parade and Such

It’s been over 3 years since I last attended the Panagbenga festivities in Baguio! For those who don’t know what it is, allow my good old trusted friend, Wikipedia to share with you what it is…

Panagbenga Festival (English: Flower Festival) is a month-long annual flower festival occurring in Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines. The term means, “season of blooming. The festival, held during the month of February, was created as a tribute to the city’s flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastation of the 1990 Luzon earthquake.

It was really a remarkable and joyful experience and I thank God for making a way to visit last February 24-26, 2012! I made a vow to go attend the weekend parades despite my busy schedule in Manila. In this entry, I’ll be sharing my experience on the Street Parade and a few tours in Baguio which was all documented in film. Sorry I got lazy to take my digicam that day ^___^

My friend and I arrived from Manila early in the morning and decided to take a nap for a few hours. We woke up later, not realizing that the parade was going to start in 30 minutes! Frantically, we rushed into the van to make sure to catch a good spot for parade in the streets!

Interesting how Hannah’s toy camera was able to catch the dark interiors of the vehicle :)

We were fortunate to find a spot near Melvin Jones and make it just in time the first wave marched down from Session Road. I was geared up with my Serpent La Sardina and my Cosina SLR that day :D

While my friend, Hannah documented as much movement in her 4-framed toy camera :D

Just hearing the nostalgic Panagbenga theme had me in tears when I saw the flower girls marching in their floral inspired outfits *tears of joy*

Props to the marching bands from the different schools! It gave the spectators an upbeat feeling and made us look forward to more of the street performers!

Even the little kiddies did their part ^___^

Bring in the sacrifice!

Flower Power! There we’re loads of photogs that day and I bet some couldn’t help but wonder why 2 crazy girls who came in straight from Manila we’re snapping away with their old school contraptions XD

Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Butts! Everybody!

Of course, nothing’s complete without the boys in their cultural bahags! Now that’s how you man up in the mountains :D

We finally met up with Ton who cosplayed as Natsu and eating bubbles for him to um…power up XD

I wasn’t surprised that he was caught by the media for some interrogation earlier :)

From the eyes of a Sardine Canned Camera XD Finally, it was good to see my La Sardina amigo, Angelo!

Ton toured us around within the Market Encounter area in Burnham! We took time to appreciate and capture beautiful flower displays :)

There were lots of balloons merchants that whole weekend and we ended up buying just for the heck of it! It was P50 each so it wasn’t that bad.

We we’re on our way to ukay-ukay (no pics :( )when we saw this carnival on the way and I spazzing to check it out! I just loved the local rides and excitement going on here :D

I convinced Hannah and Natsu (Ton) to ride on Jollibee despite his fear of motion sickness XD

It felt like we were little kids again but the ride we enjoyed the most was this crazy spaceship thing that brought us to the moon XD

Despite the hot weather and our dehydrated situation, we were to find all the refreshments we needed ^_^

Later on, Hannah and I dropped by PNKYtravelcafe for some scrumptious merienda :D

Then we walked the whole afternoon to Wright Park to see the pink haired ponies and grabbed a cup of Baguio’s signature strawberry taho *drools*

Admiring some historical landmarks like this old church ruins and Mansion House.

No jeep of cab would take us in for Mines View since it was that traffic so Hannah and took an adventure, figuring out how to get there and one hour later we knew were at the right place :D

There were lots of trinkets, butingtings or knick knacks or however you call them :)

Tourists would pay a small fee to dress up in native attires and hug a St. Bernard for a picture…interesting…

And lotsa festive food!

Well that’s my take on the first day of this awesome weekend! I’ll be releasing the next blog soon which will solely focus more on our cosplay march and float parade :D

Black & Night: A Cosplay Masquerade

I’m still overwhelmed by the Black & Night: A Cosplay Masquerade that took place at PNKYtravelcafe! It was successfully organized with the creative and crazy collaborative efforts from Otageki for the hilarious games, Kawaii Kazoku for the reg and ushering team, Anime_HQ for the breathtaking decorations and Gomen’s participation as well!

Anime HQ we’re already working on the decorations when I arrived at the cafe hours before it started.

I really loved all their concepts! Such a creative bunch ^__^

It felt so grand to see how they transformed PNKY from outside…

to the indoor location of our…tugstugs ballroom area :)

I was very intrigued to see everyone dressed in their best and the creative masks that they pulled off from the typical victorian masks to gas masks to troll faces to face-painted mimes!

I was stationed with Lei and other members from Kawaii Kazoku who were in charge of the registration committee…

while Ton lifted tables like a boss!

The beautiful decorations that were displayed really gave the place an impact as the ambiance felt magical and romantic as described by my partner-in-crime Ton

Our guest got to experience a candle-light dinner under the full moon ^_^

Of course no scrumptious meal was lacking without the presence of our faithful acoustic dude Carlos, for serenading the crowd with their favorite anime tunes.

The PNKY maids and Gomen at your service <3

The cafe served bountiful dishes of unlimited pasta and gourmet ice tea while the everyone chilled under the moon for a candle-lit dinner with the rest of our masked guests.

Pasta-all-you-can with bottomless gourmet ice tea care of PNKY Travel Cafe!

The masked couples <3

I just loved how colorful and diverse our guests were that evening ^_^

After eating I saw that our guests were eagerly restless for the entertaining games care of Otageki with your game masters, Rodney & Q-man!

And Clar as le photographer ^_^

Ton and I were curious to see what games they had prepared for the night and to our surprise they urged us to do a sample of it beyond our free will o_0

Oh thank God we we’re not the only victims!

No kids! It’s not what you think o_0

There were tons of…interesting games that they participated in which lasted for more than an hour that came with special awards too :)

Also a shout out to our Black King AJ and Night Queen Shari for their stunning get-ups that night.

We ended the night with ballroom dancing and what not random grooves which wasprobably the highlight for me :D

Poll dancing lol XD

We even had Q-man as our personal bouncer XD

Sasuke on the on sax!

I was really encouraged to see how everyone was into it…sorta brings back memories from prom *ahem* But all had to come to end since the cafe had a curfew as well :(

Our men with muscle! Props to le lovely boys for being man enough to lift and transfer the tables back into the cafe. There’s also a hilarious story to this XD

Earlier, there was this one one oversized and bulky table that they encountered with much difficulty in trying to take out. 30 minutes and a broken door later, they finally got in out…and back in. I kinda felt bad for our back door though that they had to dismantle XD

Ton as Lee and me as Yoko…in a suit :D

I’d like to commend those who sacrificed their time to help out in making this event possible and glory to God for not making it rain *jumps for joy* and our guests who reached over a hundred that night I hope you had a grand time as much as I did! Who knows, this may turn out to be an annual thing for the Baguio Cosplay Community :)

Looking forward to what this year has in store for me and everyone else ^_____^

Many, LORD my God,

are the wonders you have done,

the things you planned for us.

None can compare with you;

were I to speak and tell of your deeds,

they would be too many to declare.
